Students come to the library's homework center to look for books, and to use the computers and other reference materials.  With technology giving us news and information twenty-four hours a day, it is a joy to work with these students who -- whether their futures lie in space, medicine, education, the arts -- must first learn the basics we all learned.  Please consider becoming a volunteer at your local library and help prepare eager students of all grade levels for their future.

The Homework Centers are open on weekday afternoons during the regular school calendar. Volunteers work under the direction of the Homework Center Coordinator. Groups of 25 students are not uncommon, so volunteers can provide more individualized help. Volunteers may be required to pass a background check before working with the students.

HOMEWORK CENTERS NEEDING VOLUNTEERS

Meiners Oaks Library:
The Meiners Oaks Library Homework Center is open from 2:30 to 5:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and 2:00 to 5:00 on Wednesday.  Students primarily need help with spelling, math (all grade levels), and locating reference materials.

Camarillo Library:
Make a real difference! The Camarillo Library Homework Center coordinator is asking for adult volunteers to help students with reading, writing, and arithmetic assignments. The homework center serves 20-25 students each afternoon, Monday - Wednesday, 3-5 and Thursday, 2-5. Students range in grade from kindergarten through middle school. There is a need for volunteers with all levels of knowledge, especially mid-level math.  Help students raise their grades AND improve their self-esteem!
