FILTERING

To filter Internet access for minors, Ventura County Library uses commercial web filtering products WebBalanced and Power Elf. Every effort is made to filter exposure to obscene materials, however, no filtering software package is 100% effective.

The automatically updated filtering lists are:

  • Aggressive, Hate-sites
  • Drugs, Alcohol
  • Gambling, Online games
  • Spyware, Hacking, Phishing
  • Pornography, Adult material, Nudity
  • Violence
  • Warez (Illegal software)
  • Anonymous proxy, socks lists

Filters should not block material on sex education or art.

Ventura County Library provides unfiltered access to minors with a parent's or guardian's permission. For a minor to obtain unfiltered access, the parent or guardian must sign the Minor's Permission Form at the library in front of library staff.
