VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

If you wish to volunteer in a specific library or with one of the childrens' programs, please follow this link and contact the library where you wish to volunteer.

If you are interested in volunteer work at our central processing office in Ventura, please call Mark Lager at (805) 701-1317.

CHILDRENS' PROGRAMS

  • Volunteer storytellers are trained by our Youth Services Department to read stories to children.
Storytime Training: Are you interested in presenting regular storytimes in your local library? It’s fun, free, lasts about 3 hours, and is required before you start.
  • Volunteers assist students with their homework projects at Homework Centers at many of our libraries. Each center has a Homework Supervisor who will train and assist volunteers.
  • Each year thousands of children participate in the Summer Reading Program. The Library recruits young adults, ages 13 to 17, during the spring, to assist children in signing up for the Summer Reading Program.
  • Volunteers are needed for our Homework Centers - see our Homework Center Volunteer page.

ADULT READING INSTRUCTION

  • The Library tutors adults in reading. No prior teaching experience is required, as the Library will train you. If you are interested in being a student or a tutor, visit our Adult Literacy Program Web site.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

  • The Ventura County Library has nine Friends groups helping to support the library with fund-raising activities such as book sales. All money earned by the Friends is given to the libraries. Please visit the Friends page for the name of the contact person for your local Friends group.

Thank you for thinking of Ventura County Library!
