The Story Behind the Photo: The Moreton Bay Fig Tree

Submitted by Fun at Foster on

Hello again my name is David and I am a Library Tech at E.P. Foster Library and amateur photographer.

This is the story behind the photo.

This is a photo of the Mission Basilica San Buenaventura taken from underneath the canopy of the giant Moreton Bay Fig Tree in Mission park. The tree was planted in the 1880s, it's certainly has seen the trials and tribulations of Main Street.

I used the tree's branches and leaves to frame the shot. The slightly gloomy fog was icing on the cake in my humble opinion.

There is another giant Moreton Bay Fig Tree in Plaza Park, but I'm partial to the tree in the Old Mission Gardens.

Standing under the canopy of the tree I enjoy the shade and lovely crunchy sounds of leaves beneath my feet, plus the view of the Mission is splendid. The area is well worth some moseying around, with plenty of tempting restaurants and shops to enjoy.

The Moreton Bay Fig Tree's origins stem from Australia, so my book recommendations reflect that.

My book recommendation for adults is Australia: images of a timeless land, beautiful panoramic photography.

For the youngsters, Nighty-Night, Cooper it's a book about a young Kangaroo that has trouble falling asleep. Delightful read.

Thank you and keep reading.
