Poet and former librarian Dolores Renteria will visit the Ojai Library at 2pm on Saturday, July 8, 2023, to talk about her book of poetry, The Big Dreams of a Warrior from Compton.
The Big Dreams of a Warrior from Compton is an anthology of inclusive poems meant to ignite a fire that will encourage readers to re-appreciate poetry. These poems capture the pain and the power needed to rise above crises by focusing on self-empowerment and the collective commitment from family, friends, and fans that are always prepared to support a worthy cause.
Renteria was with the Compton Library for 30 years, doing work in adult and family literacy, English language learning, and afterschool programs. She is passionate about promoting education through the love of reading. At 74 years old, Renteria knows that her words still count and that positive change in the world always begins with a dreamer.
This event is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Ron Solórzano, Regional Librarian, at (805) 218-9146 or ron.solorzano@ventura.org.
