Despite the Buzz is a colorful cautionary tale concerning tech’s toll upon learning, relationships, safety, and wellbeing. The paperback was locally designed and published in Ojai. The artful story is educational and exciting! A new high school teacher raises awareness about screen use inside her Reflective Writing classroom, but she doesn't realize the danger lurking. Contemporary communication dramatically impacts the diverse Californian characters. When an intimate act is shared over social media, the resulting incident demonstrates that the potential in students’ pockets could prove lethal. By depicting demands upon teachers and providing understanding to those who grew up before current trends, this multi-generational book aims to build rapport among members from different schools of thought. Tamara Miller Davis is a new novelist, fire wife, mother of two, parent club volunteer, dance enthusiast, and U.S. Coast Guard veteran from Michigan. She has worked as a substitute teacher, taught English as a Second Language (ESL), and tutored students in California. A lifelong writer, Tamara has published articles, participated in poetry readings, won a countywide inspirational essay contest, presented penned pieces at dance exhibits, spoken on podcasts (including "Ojai: Talk of the Town"), and performed on stage via USA Today’s Storytellers Project. She is a member of the Women's National Book Association, Writers and Publishers Network, Ventura County Writers Club, Ventura County Mom Collective, and Ojai Poetry Series. Despite the Buzz, her debut book, won awards for contemporary romance and literary fiction at thebookfest.com. This event is free and open to the public.
