Foster Library for When Dreams Become A Reality -A Teaching Artist Workshop Part I: Poetry Workshop participants will write poetry based on reflection through a series of writing prompts, facilitated by Fernando Salinas and Nicole Taylor. The focus of the writing prompts are connected to the One County, One Book 2024 selection Rough Sleepers by Tracy Kidder.  From the official description, “In Rough Sleepers, Kidder tells the story of Dr. Jim O’Connell, a gifted man who invented a community of care for a city’s unhoused population, including those who sleep on the streets—the ‘rough sleepers.’ After Jim O’Connell graduated from Harvard Medical School and was nearing the end of his residency at Massachusetts General, the hospital’s chief of medicine made a proposal: Would he defer a prestigious fellowship and spend a year helping to create an organization to bring health care to homeless citizens? That year turned into O’Connell’s life’s calling. Tracy Kidder spent five years following Dr. O’Connell and his colleagues as they work with thousands of homeless patients, some of whom we meet in this illuminating book.” Creative expressions developed during this workshop series will be combined into a single collective artwork which will be featured and presented during the Ventura County Celebration of Books on October 12th, at CSU Channel Islands. This event is a part of the Ventura County Celebration of Books (VCCoB) and is open to all ages Learn more about that event at the Ventura County Library Foundation, VCCoB website.        United States Ventura County Library support@chillco.com America/Los_Angeles public
