Foster Library at 5pm on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, to deliver a Wildfire-Ready Workshop. The Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council offers no-cost home wildfire assessments to anyone in Ventura County to educate on the latest fire science. The assessment only takes 1 hour, a short time to potentially protect your home and family. Wildfires have grown in size and impact in Ventura County in the last several years, such as the Thomas Fire, which burned 281,893 acres and 1,063 structures, and Woolsey Fire, which burned 97,000 acres and 670 structures. How would this assessment help protect my home? Based on the latest science from the Insurance Institute for Home & Safety (IBHS), the structure and vegetation modification recommendations given by their team may reduce your home’s wildfire risk up to 75%. Recommendations could include affordable actions such as removing debris from gutters, or larger actions such as trimming back overhanging trees. How do I sign up? Residents can sign up with a simple appointment made on the website VenturaFireSafe.org or call (805) 746-7365. As a nonprofit, the team at the Fire Safe Council are here to educate, not enforce.
