It's that time of year again, folks! Summer, Summer, Summer-time! So don't let all of the adventure and fresh insight that accompanies reading go to the kids this time of year. You can enter our Adult Summer Reading Contest in-person at the library or online right here.
These days your library is never closed. You know that your eLibrary is open 24/7 so you are never without reading material. But do you know we are available to you in other ways? In the age of social media we have many opportunities to alert you to what is happening in all of our branches, and in the community.
Have you visited Legal Forms Library in your eLibrary? Most likely you were looking for a common form, found it and moved on. There is so much more available in this robust online resource. It is worth taking the time to explore its content. You will find an abundance of useful information:
Here is an idea to beat the heat and escape from the crowds: take a boat ride to one of the Channel Islands. Island Packers offers round-trip boat rides to Anacapa Island for $59.00. The 11-mile trip leaves from Channel Islands Harbor at 9:30am and takes about an hour. You will likely see dolphins, sea lions, and even whales on the ride to or from the island.

After channeling my inner Monty Don and polishing off a pot of tea I trudged to the backyard.
Weed infested beyond belief, I started tugging unwanted plants from Mother Earth.
The soil was soft which made my efforts much easier. I pulled the weeds that encircled the apple tree and long since dead apricot tree.
Hearing the birds chirp and the sweet aroma of orange blossoms made my labor quite pleasant.

The idea of the Bookmobile did not originate in Ventura, California, but was an east-coast concept observed by a young Miss Elizabeth Topping—future County Librarian of Ventura—during her time spent in school.
This month’s blog refers to the same general area of Utah as last month's post about Zion National Park.

One of the most scenic areas of our coast is north of San Luis Obispo. The shoreline turns rugged as the mountains rise steeply from the ocean. Abundant coastal fog in the summer months makes conditions suitable for coast redwoods to grow. One of the best spots to see the redwoods is Big Basin National Park. To get there drive the 101 to just south of San Jose and head west towards the coast. From Big Basin our next attraction is Point Lobos, which is just south of Carmel, on Highway 1.
This is going to be the longest of Joel’s Journeys, but your blogger thinks it’s worth it. You will avoid crowds by going to some less visited national parks while there is still considerable snow on the ground in early July!
The lowest point in the United States, at 282 feet below sea level, is Death Valley National Park. In addition to being the lowest point, Death Valley has the hottest recorded temperature on earth—134 Fahrenheit! Average rainfall is less than two inches per year, making Death Valley a difficult environment for plants to grow. This produces a barren environment in which the amazing colors of the rocks are highlighted.
Ventura County Public Health Officer Doctor Robert Levin has issued a recommendation supporting residents of Ventura County who wear a mask when leaving their homes for essential activities.
Masks should be homemade and not hospital-grade as hospitals are experiencing a shortage of masks.
