The Ojai Valley chapter of NOW (National Organization for Women) will visit the Ojai Library at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, to host two screenings and a discussion of the 2014 documentary film She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry.

This free community film screening is being offered in celebration of Women’s History month. This documentary resurrects the buried history of the outrageous, often brilliant women who founded the modern women’s movement from 1966 to 1971. She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry takes us from the founding of NOW, with ladies in hats and gloves, to the emergence of more radical factions of women’s liberation. It does not shy away from controversies over race, sexual preference, and leadership that arose in the women’s movement, and brilliantly captures the spirit of the time—thrilling, scandalous, and often hilarious.

Ultimately, this is a film about organizing for human rights, and marries the past with what still needs to be done today. She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry is a film for all ages, featuring interviews with early feminists, never-seen-before archival footage, and great music from the period. Come celebrate Women’s History Month at the Ojai Library on March 23; She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry screens at 1 p.m. and at 4 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Ron Solórzano, Regional Librarian, at (805) 218-9146.
